The whooping crane is the tallest North American bird, often standing over 5 feet tall. To assist the endangered cranes, Operation Migration uses ultralight aircraft to guide them to their wintering grounds. Cranes court each other with elaborate dances and distinctive whooping unison calls for which the birds are named. Whooping cranes choose their mates for life, living 20 - 30 years in the wild and up to 80 years in captivity.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
