The Nagas of India are powerful, magical, semi-divine, snake-spirits. They are half-serpent, half-human. They reside in an underground kingdom called Bhagavati, meaning rich in treasure. Nagas and Naginis (female snake spirits), use magic and have supernatural powers. They are spiritual beings, one of which provided comfort and safety to the Buddha, during long periods of meditation.

Psychologically, Nagas symbolize spiritual seekers. Magically, they come to the aid of other beings, which are sincere seekers, helping them discover the hidden treasures of the spirit. Nagas will help keep sincere beings on their spiritual path. This can lead to material treasures as well. Sincerity is the key.

In the tradition of Mahayana Buddhism, it is stated that The Lotus Sutra was written in the time of the Buddha (500 BCE) and kept secret for 500 years in the realm of the Dragons or Nagas. Our Nagini symbolizes the snake-spirit who preached this dharma to all living beings. A sense of Timelessness and the inconceivable are woven in The Lotus Sutra, with reference to the cosmological order and the realms of gods, devas, dragons and other mythological beings. Considered to be one of the highest teachings, it is implied that full Buddha-hood can only be attained by exposure to the truths expressed within The Lotus Sutra.
