Receiving a special dispensation from the Vatican, Toribio Romo Gonzalez was ordained at the age of only 21. He was a parish priest in Jalisco, Mexico. In 1920, the Catholics in Mexico rebelled against the anti-clerical policies of the government in what is known as the Cristero Rebellion. Padre Toribio and 24 others were murdered by a firing squad during the height of this rebellion. It is believed that St. Toribio assists immigrants, alleviating their distress and making their passage a safe one.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
