Lucy, whose name means light or bringer of light, consecrated her virginity to God. She refused to marriage to a pagan suitor, dispersing her dowry to the poor. Her enraged suitor denounced her as Christian to the Sicilian governor during the height of Christian persecution. She was arrested, tortured, blinded and finally killed. Today, St. Lucy's courage is celebrated with festivals where processions of young girls wear candlelit wreaths in their hair as a symbol of Lucy's guiding light.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
