Patron of cats and cat lovers, travellers, gardeners and widows.

As a young girl, Gertrude helped her mother to start a monastery in Nivelles, Belgium. She became a nun and was known for her hospitality to all travellers. She was also known for her kindness to the many cats and mice that lived in the monastery. It was said that the little mice were like souls in Purgatory, for whom Gertrude regularly prayed. Today, little silver or gold mice are left at St. Gertrudes shrine in Cologne, Germany.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.

Chain option comes with a 2 mm flat link stainless steel chain of either 18 , 20 , 22 inch standard length or a 18 inch chain with an extension up to 4 inches ( 22 inch total ) in length for more flexibility and a lead free pewter accent bead. Wear them with or without bead!
