A gregarious, wading bird, a roseate has long legs, a long neck and is easily distinguished by its elongated spoon-shaped bill. Roseates get their pink colouring from the crustaceans they eat. As they age, their colouring becomes more intensely rose. 'Head-swinging' its bill under water, a spoonbill detects prey in cloudy water, even in the dark of night. A roseate's nostrils are located at the top of its bill, permitting it to continue breathing as it sieves the water for food.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
