Although mouse-like in appearance, pikas are not rodents. They are lagomorphs, like rabbits and hares. The tiny pika is extremely heat sensitive; it can die if exposed to heat above 80 degree F for more than a few hours. Pikas build haystacks of plant material that act to mark territory boundaries and serve as their winter store of food. Researchers study pikas as an indicator species, whose survival is threatened by increasing temperatures and climate change.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
