Porcupines are skilled tree climbers, with long claws, textured palms and quills that facilitate their climb and secure their perch. A porcupines 30,000 quills cannot be fired, but they detach easily when touched. Quills were traded like currency among early Native American tribes who valued them for their use in elaborate quillwork art. When their natural diet lacks enough salt, porcupines will eat road salt, tires, and even wooden axe handles.
The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
