The legendary Gryphon has the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion; two of the most noble creatures. There are many different stories of the Gryphon through the ages but all the legends share many similarities. The Gryphon loved gold and precious stones and spent hours upon hours enjoying their glint and gleam. Gryphons are said to be guardians of treasures. The Gryphon's claws were said to have magical powers. This made the claws quite valuable as they could be used to protect the food and drink of royalty. A drinking cup made of the Gryphon's claw was said to change colour when filled with a poisonous substance. Procuring the precious claw could only be accomplished by a holy man, if he cured the beast of sickness, the Gryphon awarded him with a magical claw. The Gryphon was said to be symbol of Christ on earth. The Gryphon's body of loin symbolised the strength and sovereign power the head and wings of an eagle symbolised Christ's ascension into heaven. The Gryphon was a complex creature, a lover and thief of gold and jewels but also a trusted guardian. A creature that drew the chariots of the Gods represented the glory of the Sun and possessed great magical powers. The Gryphon is a representation of strength, beauty and intelligence.

Made of high quality excelsior pewter. Single sided design.

Black cord option comes with an approx. 36 inch or 91.44 cm cord and a (lead free) pewter accent bead with laminated ends.

Chain option comes with a 2 mm flat link stainless steel chain of either 18 , 20 , 22 inch standard length or a 18 inch chain with an extension up to 4 inches ( 22 inch total ) in length for more flexibility and a lead free pewter accent bead. Wear them with or without bead!
