All of the 22 species of kangaroo rats live in desert scrub and grasslands throughout the western regions of the United States. Although it moves like a kangaroo, it is in fact a rodent. It can jump up to 9 feet and completely change direction when it lands. As a desert dweller, a Kangaroo rat obtains water from the seeds it eats, producing waste that is excreted with little loss of water. Each lives alone in its own deep burrow, with many entrances, tunnels, and rooms for food storage and sleep.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off.
