Celtic Trinity Knot ~ Beautiful jewellery celebrating ancient Celtic artwork found on stone carvings and illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells. Powerful symbols of good fortune and the never ending cycle of life. The Claddagh symbol is a traditional Irish symbol which represents love, loyalty and friendship (hands represent friendship, heart represents love, crown represents loyalty). The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, located just outside the old city walls of Galway, now part of Galway City. Legend has it that at one time a young man from the village named Richard Joyce was abducted by Moorish pirates whilst out fishing. He was taken to Tunisia and there learnt the skills of a goldsmith. Upon receiving his freedom many years later he was offered a great wealth and the hand of a rich mans daughter, but instead chose to return to Claddagh where his true love awaited him. He married her and set up a goldsmith store, creating the Claddagh ring with its crown, to represent loyalty, hands, representing friendship, and a heart, for love.
