Pirates of the Caribbean pendant is fashioned from the Pirate Jack Calico Rackhams Jolly Roger flag. Calico Jack was an English Pirate Captain during the early 18th century. His nickname was derived from the colourful calico clothes he wore. He is remembered mostly for employing two of the most notorious female pirates of his time, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, in his crew. Calico Jack became captain by staging a mutiny against his former captain in 1718. After a short time he met an adventurous woman, Anne Bonny, who quickly became his lover and fellow pirate. It is said she left her husband, started dressing like a man and returned to the high seas with Calico Jack to begin her own notorious pirating career. During their exploits, they took on a male crew member who became the object of Annes attention. The crew member was later found out to be Mary Read, another woman who was masquerading as a man! The three became famous as Pirates and Lovers!
All came to an end 1720 when Caribbean Governor Woodes Rogers men came upon Jacks vessel when he and his crew were too drunk to fight. Anne Bonny and Mary Read fought a fierce fight to save the ship, but in the end all were arrested. All the men were hanged but the women, claiming to be pregnant, escaped the noose. Captain Jack was hanged on November 27, 1720 on Deadmans Cay.
