Of the 20 known species of armadillo, only six species live in the United States, all having long noses and 6 - 11 bands. Armadillo, Spanish for little armoured one, are one of the few animals known to eat fire ants as a part of their diet. Though their strong claws are used mostly for digging, armadillos can also use them to climb trees and scale fences. Armadillo kits are born with pink, leathery skin that hardens over time to become the armour-like protective shell.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight.
