Abert's squirrels shed their fluffy ear tufts in the summer months, but are still easily recognisable for having long, upright ears. Ponderosa pines provide the Abert's staple diet; seeds, twigs, buds, sap, fungus and inner bark are eaten throughout the year. Unlike other squirrels, Abert's do not store food. Being diurnal, they forage from just before sunrise until just before sunset. Abert's evade predators by scampering through the interlocking tree canopies, vanishing amid their many densely-spaced nests.

The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off.
